Throughout the entire summer Chrysler Group and the United Way of Southeastern Michigan have joined forces in a fight against hunger and building awareness about underutilized summer meal programs. Employees from Chrysler Group rolled up their sleeves and helped out the United Way in several ways, including; volunteering at food pantries, starting food drives, being active in summer food events. Once all the dust settled the duo served more than 100,000 meals to children in need in the Detroit Metro area.
Nancy Rae, Chrysler Group’s Senior VP of Human Resources, talked about how the this all came to fruition thanks to the generosity of the Chrysler Group family, stating that, “The response to this challenge has been overwhelming. With 1 in 5 children across Michigan struggling to access nutritious food, childhood hunger is an issue that really hits home for the employees working in our plants and offices. It’s truly rewarding to see how their spirit of volunteerism and devotion to the cause has made a difference.”
The summer months in the Detroit Metro Area are a real concern when it comes to hunger as kids aren’t enrolled in school and normally aren’t given one square meal a day.
